New Epson drivers: Errors, freezes and crashes

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 on my x64 PC. It worked fine under W8. Since upgrading, I have problems with all aspects of printing. The Control Panel "printers and devices" hangs. Hitting "print" causes Word to freeze "not responding". EPSON's printer finder sees the networked printer and the printer itself works fine as a scanner using third party software to scan.
